About CDI

The Course Design Institute is a program for faculty interested in redesigning their courses to take advantage of educational technologies to improve student-learning outcomes by improving pedagogym logistics, and efficiencies in large and small enrollment courses. It is a collaborative effort between ITS, pICT, CTL and the College of Education.

Benefits to colleges and departments include:
• Improved student learning outcomes
• Streamlined courses
• Leveraging technologies and online resources
• Improved logistics of course delivery
• Improved accessibility in courses

We provide:
• 4-day hands-on workshop
• Sustained coaching and consultation on course design from ITS instructional design consultants
• Infrastructure, motivation, and management of the design process
• Resources and materials, ongoing workshops and webinars
• Stipends to help defray the cost of presenting or publishing results from their course design project

Colleges provide:

• Faculty who are comfortable using information, communication technologies, course management systems such as blackboard and who have access to up to date computing and “smart classroom” assignments.
• Encouragement and support (e.g. release time, stipends, equipment, GA/TAs)

Faculty Fellows:
• Attend monthly faculty learning community meetings
• Are held accountable for submitting scheduled deliverables
• Present course improvements at scheduled events
• Participate in a community of practice on course design
